About Morning Star Katahdins

In 2005, we began raising hair sheep at our farm, Morning Star,  nestled in the foothills of Southwest Virginia. Currently we have 35 breeding ewes that are Katahdin/Dorper cross. We use Registered Katahdin RR rams as our sires.

The Katahdin sheep are easy to care for. They are docile, low maintenance, have exceptional parasite resistance, and shed in warm weather so that there is no need of shearing. They are fertile, usually giving birth to twins or triplets, and are great mothers. We allow our lambs to wean from their mothers naturally, except for a few rams that we wean when they become fertile.

Morning Star Sheep Farm is a closed farm. We have brought in only a few high quality rams from reputable farms over the years. We keep records on all of our sheep using Livestock Managers Software. We raise our animals in natural conditions with high standards of ethical care.

In March 2011 we were approved to be in the SFCP Scrapie Flock Certification Program. We are constantly improving our flock so that the end result is the highest quality commercial breeding stock and market lambs with meat that is lean and tender.
